CNV1-I1-8-Start ups

IITs and IIMs are known for their excellence in several fields. And with the strengthening of the start up ecosystem in India, we have seen a bunch of promising start-ups emerging from these institutes. But, on taking a closer look we find that despite the ecosystem and the funding, there have been very few successful hardware start-ups. This is where Atomberg a Mumbai based new (technology) start up, stands out. With the vision of becoming the “Tesla” of HouseHold Appliances, IIT Bombay Graduate Manoj Meena founded Atomberg in 2012 and I joined as cofounder in 2013.

HISTORY

From 2012 to 2015, Atomberg had a range of high end technical products like Data Acquisition Systems, Vehicle Tracking Systems etc. Prestigious Clients included ISRO, DRDO, BARC, Dominos etc. In 2015, we realized the huge gap in the market that exists in household consumer appliances. On one hand, we have appliances which has standard features, but consuming a lot of electricity in the process. On the other hand, there are energy efficient appliances, which simply cannot compete with others based on parameters like design, looks, price etc. By combining the virtues of smartness and energy efficiency, Atomberg wanted to fill the gap. And in line with our vision, we developed India’s most energy efficient ceiling fan named Gorilla. Using BLDC Technology, this fan consumes just 28W at full speed, thus reducing power consumption by almost 65-70% when compared to ordinary ceiling fans.

Till date, Atomberg raised 2 rounds of funding. The first round of funding was from the promoter family of Aarti Group. The next round of funding was from Parampara Capital, a SEBI registered VC fund focussed on hardware start-ups.

PRESENT Since launching the product in November 2015, Atomberg has achieved a great deal within a short time. Some of the key achievements are 1 Sibabrata Das, is B.Tech from IIT Bombay and he is Cofounder of Atomberg Technology.

highlighted below:

  • Sales of 30000 fans within 1 year of launching
  • Production Capability of 10000 fans/month
  • State of the Art R&D facility
  • Certification from BEE, CPRI and GRIHA
  • Recognition from United Nations as one of the most promising start ups in CleanTech Space
  • Strong pan India sales network
  • Key clients like ITC, Infosys, Tata Power, Hyatt Hotels, Aditya Birla Group etc.

What sets Atomberg apart is its strong core team and R&D capabilities. The current core team comprises solely of IIT-IIM graduates with years of experience and strong domain expertise in fields like sales, marketing, production and design.

FUTURE

Not resting on its laurels, Atomberg has already completed the prototype of its next product. It will be a next generation smart fan controlled by a smartphone, and will be completely noiseless. It will also have other advanced features like motion sensors, temperature sensors and a dimmable LED. Atomberg is also working to reduce the cost of production of the existing Gorilla fan. This will enable us to make the product more affordable.

CONCLUSION

With a strong core-team , strong focus on R&D for future products, and a proven product in Gorilla fan, Atomberg is surely on the cusp of something special. This is one company that will be in the news for all the right reasons for years to come.
