Sport’s Marketing

SPORTS MARKETING WORKSHOP conducted by Toshan Patil (Co-founder of Meraki Sports and entertainment) on 30th and 31st August 2019 was an eye opener for to PGDM Marketing students to know what sports marketing all is about. Sport is emotional and it has the power to change the world, inspire people and unite people. Toshan inspired students to find new things related to sports marketing strategies they were passionate about and make their chosen careers more than just a job.

Sports marketing uses sports, in any form, to help sell goods and services. This particular style of marketing is less about using a single strategy and more about using the content of sports to assist marketing efforts. This is not limited to professional sports, and may include college athletics, minor leagues, or alternative sports.

Since sports can be watched on a variety of platforms, sports marketing can take many different forms. The sports marketers sell advertising space inside their stadiums to marketers who want to purchase billboards and other print ads, while TV networks sell airtime during the events. Famous athletes also sign contracts to work as celebrity endorsers and lend their images to marketers. Meraki works with brands and constructs sports strategy to effectively leverage sports to connect with their consumers. Meraki was first to represent Amateur Athlete stories such as Nihad Panju, Harsh Pandya, etc.

Marketers understand the popularity of sports and have made them a centrepiece of marketing campaigns for decades. As the size and popularity of national sports has grown, the field of sports marketing has grown with it. Problem areas in sports marketing were brands not known, uncertain product quality and low marketing budgets which gave solutions such as elite or spectator sports, if it works for them it can work for others too that are related to product quality and. The most important element of this is to convey authenticity so that clients trust your brand.
